I picked up a group of 3 long distance section hikers on Thursday night who
said they made it from Belden to Highway 36 in a day and a half, said the
snow "wasn't bad." Checked the log book at the highway yesterday and found
that an Australian couple went through and noted that they were "continuous
thru-hikers." Earlier in the week there was also one entry noting that he
was a "continuous thru-hiker." Someone also reported he'd seen a big bear
about 2 miles south of highway 36.

I know there's a group of 5 thrus on their way up from Sierra City and I
hope to see them in a few days. There have been several section hikers
coming through.

It appears the trails are clearing hereabouts, and from looking at the
snow-capped peaks around here, snow is melting fast. The runoff is slowing
considerably, but still high.
