Over the weekend I went up to the pct from both eureka state park, and
buck's lake summit.
Bucks summit south to look out rock, you hit 100% snow about 5 miles
down. That area is heavily logged and the brush piles, while covered
with snow, make for dangerous (in my opinion) post holing. I feel into
brush piles so many times I bailed at a near by paved road and walked it
back to the summit.
Leaving from the mine trail in eureka and heading directly up to the PCT
you hit snow about 6000. Wades lake is still frozen almost solid.
The hiking is not terrible here, we were able to make it up and then hit
every lake on the way out. We even saw two groups camped in the one
snow free spot on wade lake.
I would guess even with this heat there are still two weeks of snow left
on the trails. We encountered patches from 3-5 feet deep still.
