she hits on a very true point ...

... you'll find a group to settle in with.  trying to start with someone at the 
beginning is restricting yourself ... you'll go in and out of groups as you 
walk.

the only way i would start with someone is if your relationship with them was 
more important than completing the trail,  ie, husband and wife etc.
