Hey everyone I thought you might be interested in a new bear resistant canister.
It is not yet approved and thats the really interesting part...
The SBBIG (Sierra Black bear Inter agency group) is no more and since they
were responsible for testing and approving bear canisters the fate of this new canister
should prove interesting. I am really curious how they will test it and get it approved by..
how ever is approving these things nowadays.
I had heard it is left up to the individual ranger districts.
Anyhow here is the link to this prototype Bear Canister:
http://www.camp4outdoors.com/

Supposedly it will weigh anywhere from 1.75 to 2 lbs. with a volume of up to 700 cubic inches.
It can be split into two halves like a plastic easter egg for transport and there is an extension ring to bring volume up to the
maximum of 700 cubic inches. It has integral straps for lashing to the pack.
I can't find any real dimensions on their website and the thing looks a bit ungainly in the pictures.
It is way too soon to know wether this thing is even practical let alone bear resistant.

Anyhow I wish someone would make a more "kidney" shaped canister to better fit inside our smaller thru hiker packs but whatever.
Better Yet an approved Ursack.
