Weddings. I had to end my 2008 ride at McKenzie Pass in Oregon on August 17 so
that I could give away my daughter at her Wedding in Mendocino. It was
beautiful!  Four days ago she had her first baby.  He is my second grandson.  I
returned to the trail early in July of 2009.

Getting off trail for weddings was one of the most common reasons last year.
I had to leave trail for my brother in law's, as I had promised to cater
the event.  When time came to leave after about 5 weeks of hiking, I was
pissed.  But the wedding was beautiful, and I would have been totally dog
meat in the family if I'd missed it.  So you have to make your own decision,
but quite a few people who did complete had to get off for weddings.  I came
back with a group of folks I'd become friends with in the deserts, and
hopped back in at Lone Pine for the High Sierra.  After completing at
Manning Park, I took some time with my wife, and then finished the deserts
in early fall.  It was a whole different desert, and quite beautiful.  I
finished my thru at the door of the Saufley's in Agua Dulce.
