from the people i know who did both, most are surprised how isolated the AT is
at times ... and how crowded the PCT is. i've only done sections of either ...
i found the PCT to have about the same number of peas the central portion of the
AT i did ... in a "how many you see in a day" amount.
the AT has more people, but it is a much wider hiking window. the PCT, the
hikers all tend to group up ... not only because of kickoff but because of the
sierras, and again because of washington's snow.
as for maps, i am always a proponent of halfmiles maps, they are free (but as
in all PCT things, leave a kind donation). a LOT of work goes into making them
the best.
will you store them digitally? on paper? etc ?
as for town guides etc. Yogi's guide is excellent and comes with a
recommendation as well... not only from me, but from a lot of others... who i'm
sure will chime in.
i know very little about the CDT ... but if i am correct i believe 300 miles of
it is still a road walk... i may be wrong though, i know so little about it,
sorry : / certainly the least 'crowded' or social of them all.

Subject: [pct-l] Question about maps
Hey,
Does anybody know the best source of map for a 2011 thru hike. I like Jonathan
Ley's CDT maps a lot, so something along those lines and not obscenely priced
would be awesome.
Also, I'm curious what yalls thoughts are on the CDT vs PCT. I've never done a
thru hike, but have ruled out the AT (too many people, lots of towns, etc.) Any
advice in my decision would be appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Kevin
