[pct-l] Jacket Recommendations

Thumper,

Each year is a bit different on the PCT, and each person's comfort level is different. 

In '09 I carried a lightweight wool base-layer, Montain wind shirt(3oz) a Mont-bell Ultralight Down Inner Jacket and Mountain Hardware Cohesion rain jacket, light  gloves and wool beanie. I added an aditional base-layer for the Sierra. One to hike in, one to sleep in.

'10 turned out to be much cooler and wetter. I switched out the down jacket for a Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover which is a synthetic(PrimaLoft). I found this jacket to be much warmer than my down jacket and I felt more comfortable about hiking in it(the Mont-bell quickly soaked through with sweat if I hiked in it, not as big of a concern with the synthetic). The Nano is two onces heavier, but I also switched out rain-gear, the Cohesion for a Equinox Anorack that was 7 or 8 oz. lighter.

If you tend to run a bit cooler and have the cash, take a look at the Western Mountaineering Flash Jacket. Molasses bought one at the K.O. and I don't think that she's taken it off since, which is good considering how much it costs. Cost aside, it packs down to about the size of a grapefruit, lofts like crazy and has a hood(all for 9oz). All in all maybe the best ultralight down jacket on the market. WM are among the best down manufacturers around, if not the best.

I've looked at the Columbia Thermodynamic Omni-Heat Jacket but there is a weight penalty of an additional 7 ozs.  Otherwise a great item.  Appreciate inputs and knowing what others are wearing on the trail.
