If that does notwork, growl as loud as you can.  3. If that does not work, throw the dog a dog biscuit.  4. If that does not work, run as fast as you can.  5. If you can't outrun the dog take the pet cat out of your pack, throw her her on the trail and keep on running.  This should work because the dog almost certainly will go after the cat instead of you.

Switchback replies: Just use pepper spray.  Works everytime.  I use against Female Terminator Leadership Types on the trial all the time.  They are always after me.
