Hi Melanie,
I was as cold at night in the deserts as I was in the Sierra last year.  Ice
in the morning was common, and we were snowed on several times in SoCal.  I
had a down jacket and was a bit cold in a 20 deg bag.  I usually sleep and
stay very warm, but that's how cold it was at times.  If you bring less,
just have the warmer stuff ready to be shipped if you need it.  Heck, it may
be warm this year.
