That is really awful that you got attacked by two dogs on the trail. I think
the reactions you got were because of the negative tone and sarcasm in your
original post. There is a way to say something, you know? You could have
simply said that you have had bad experiences with dogs in the past and you
wanted to coordinate your hike so that you didn't run into any
(also operating under the false assumption that ALL future thru hikers are
reading this list). That would have been fine but that isn't what you did.
Instead you were a total jerk and painted all dog owners with one big brush.
I think another poster may have hit the nail on the head, so-to-speak.
Perhaps it is the energy you give off that dogs are reacting to.

Oh, and calling people "overeducated a-holes" probably won't help you
either.
