Gary I contacted VVR last month and that's when I came up with the mid-April info, here is a copy of the emails:

we are usually here from mid-April because of our guided fishing trips.
Road may not open till late May but that doesn't affect us. We bring everything in on Quads.
Good Luck,
Jim

Subject: Resupply information for 2011

Good afternoon,

I’m planning on a PCT thru-hike in 2011, and am looking at resupplying at your resort. I’ve gotten all the mailing and price information off of your website but was curious as to when you opened this year and when is the latest you might open next year, I’ll be coming through your area the very end of May first of June.

Thank you in advance,

Steven Mueller

I'm planning on hiking from Lone Pine and a resupply at Vermillion (they are there from mid-April so they say for fishing expeditions), but was planning on a resupply at Touleme but that will be closed when I go through. Can you suggest an alternate?

I think Red's Meadow store had only been open for a day when I arrived on the 20th. Mammoth Lakes is a better place to resupply in any case if you are shopping. 2004 was a low snow year. I left Kennedy Meadows on June 7th. (sorry for that backwards chronology :-)

It is about the same as doing Kennedy Meadows to VVR. I would be concerned about depending on VVR early in the season, especially in a high snow year. You might want to contact them and ask about what is available before they officially open for hikers.

That adds a day in either direction but of course it is absolutely beautiful hiking. If you don't insist on hiking the PCT through here there are *lots* of options on how to get in and out of the Valley on trails.
