Good points. It's been a slow process from high top heavy leather boots
years ago, and believing that they were the only way, to using low top, very
loose, (I almost don't lace them up now) trail runners. The first step was
reading Jardine years ago, and just going to low top boots, then light
weight part cloth boots, to tennis shoes, and never wanting to go back at
this point. I used to twist and sprain my ankle on a regular basis, it
almost never happens now. Several times on trail last year my ankle rolled
quite a bit, hitting a rock or stick wrong, and each time, I could feel the
muscle in my ankle counteract the role. No harm done. I think you are
right Diane. This used to happen much more often when I wore the heavier
shoes than it does now. When my foot rolled before, it often meant limping
for a day or two. No longer, as my ankle is simply stronger.
