[pct-l] rain chaps vs rain pants

I have a pair of very light weight rain chaps.  I like the fact that they are only a few ounces but worry that they may be too light for a thru hike and have been looking at the Golite 
Tumalo Pertex Storm Pants that are around 10 ounces.  More weight = more protection but they are more weight and take up more space in my pack.  Any thoughts?  Yea it's the battle of the light weights vs the ultra light weights, go at it guys!
