To chime in on what Tom started, as an update:

Yesterday and today up at Heavenly we measured winds in excess of 100mph on
the crest. Over along the Pacific Crest Trail in the Desolation Wilderness
area I'm sure it was higher! Heavenly had to shut down most of the ski area
due to wind speeds.

We expect the snow to start tonight and continue falling through tomorrow
night with lighter winds for a total accumulation of between 2 and 5 feet of
new powder. Thereafter, there are a series of new storms lined up out in the
Pacific, so we expect more of the white stuff the rest of the month.

With regard to the Mountain Education Snow Skills Training Courses, we teach
regardless of the weather as long as our students can get to the trailhead.
When the weather is terrible, that is the best time to teach wilderness
safety. With our help, once you hike and pitch in horizontal snow and high
winds, then revel in being warm and dry in your 3 or 4-season tent while
cooking dinner and playing cards, you will have the confidence to no longer
be daunted by a nasty 'ol summer rain storm!
