Actually PCT hikers have a pretty bad record when it comes to starting
wildfires in southern CA.
A 2010 PCT hiker started a wildfire with an alcohol stove just north
of San Jacinto.
See toward the bottom of this blog:

A hiker smoking on the PCT started the Apache fire in 2008, also in
the San Jacintos.

Another PCT hiker with an alcohol stove started a fire in 2005:

I believe another PCT hiker started a wild fire burning toilet paper
somewhere in southern CA a few years ago, but I'm not sure the details
of that one.
I imagine their have been countless other close calls that hikers were
able to put out.
I personally never use an alcohol stove in southern CA because I think
they are dangerous, but HYOH. Just be very careful out there with
fire.
