You can also save weight by not carrying water - their are people called
"trail angels" who will gladly supply water every few miles along the
entire trail and you will be able to refill your cup at these water caches
without any worries, just like John Muir intended. Remember to stay at
these people's houses and partake of their generosity and the tip is
optional!

I'd say something about cell phones but I feel like that controversy is a
few years buried now : D
