[pct-l] parking at mammoth

Hello Margaret,

I appreciate your comments. There is also a Ranger Station and a horse camp with corrals at Agnew. That is where I would leave my horse. My reason for wanting to park my rig in Mammoth is that the Crest bus stops there. I need to take it north to get to the intersection of the road that will take me back to my horse at Levitt Meadows. I will be hitching west from the intersection of 108 and 395, where the bus will drop me off. During my PCT journey from Mexico to  Canada I did a LOT of hitching. I would move my rig north 100 to 300 miles north (caching my resupplies as I drove north) and then hitch south back to where I left my horse in good care

That way I could ride unsupported and resupply myself. I mostly lived on the trail. Didn't go in to towns like most hiker do. You can't hitch with a horse.

Not a through hiker, but in 2009 I did a 4 day trip leaving from the Agnew Meadows lot.  I came back in to the trailhead/lot from a different direction, and seem to remember passing a stable (pack station?).  Might that be a possibility?  You could ride right up to your rig.

I am looking for a safe place to park my rig in Mammoth for about 10 days.  I will have last left my horse at Levitt Meadows west of Sonora Pass. I would then have driven the rig down to Mammoth and would take the Crest bus to Highway 108. Then I will hitch up to my horse - ride back up to the PCT, ride south to Agnew Meadows, leave my horse in a corral, and take the shuttle bus to Mammoth and the rig. Then drive down to pick up my horse.
