I’d suggest you call 530-926-4511, the Mt.Shasta Ranger Station, they 
should know.
 
I belong to a hiking group in this area and I’ve never heard anyone ever 
mention the Alder Creek Trail. Wasn’t aware of it until you asked; though there 
is reference to it in the Guide book, as you known.
