Don't buy a camera for the thru-hike just yet.  Within two years, the capability will double and the prices will drop significantly.  Plus, the accessories (batteries, recharger, memory disks, etc.) with this year's cameras may be obsolete in 2 years.

I'm planning my thru-hike for spring 2013. 
Giving myself that much time because I need to buy all my gear still. 

So one night I was looking up cameras for backpacking and found one I liked, 
saved the page and went to bed. 
My computer got a virus that same night and it wasn't saved so I don't know what 
camera it was!!! 

I remember it was black or gray, flat, digital, and had choice of green, blue 
and I think gray outer rubber ring like the kind you can get for your IPhone. 
Ringing any bells?
