Things I learned about GPS waypoint downloads:
 
1.  You can use the MapSource software (which comes with the Garmin
unit), or the POI loader referenced in Halfmile's instructions.  I had
better luck with MapSource.
2.  Read and re-read Halfmile's instructions before you do anything.
3.  You do not have to buy or download the Garmin maps to download and
use Halfmile's waypoints.
 
And, to state what is obvious already to hundreds of others out there,
Halfmile is terrific, and his generosity to the hiker community is so
appreciated.  I would encourage anyone who has benefitted from his work,
or wants to support the hiker community in general, to go to
