[pct-l] Bear Cannister as a bounce bucket?

Compare postage of mailing a bear can vs. a flat rate USPS box.  The fee for the canister will probably be based on weight, and more than the flat rate box.  May be a good idea, though.  The canister will be certainly more sturdy than a cardboard box. 



By the way, if you don't follow the AT or Whiteblaze.net, you might not know that a 70-year-old thru hiker, Model T, died in his sleep in his tent at Davenport Gap last night.  He was from NM, doing his first thru-hike, and he's on Trailjournals.com.  This is not the Model-T who has written several AT books.  Sad for his family, but he went doing what he loved, peaceably and apparently without pain.  We should all be so lucky when our time comes.

I had this thought today. Would it make sense to use my BV500 for a bounce bucket? I was thinking I could transfer to a USPS cardboard box for the one bounce for the Sierra's and then back to the cannister. Thoughts?
