[pct-l] FYI: Denatured alcohol availability in So Cal

Keep in mind that the ban on solvents, specifically labeled for solvent purposes with VOCs above 25 g/L, is the first of its kind in the nation according to the SCAQMD website. The rule only applies to a few counties in Southern California. Even so, we've heard that retailers in some unaffected counties have pulled denatured alcohol product from their shelves.

Other air quality districts or agencies may adopt the SCAQMD rule. I have heard that California regulations drive change throughout the country because manufacturers cannot do things one way just for Cali, and different for other states. I've no idea how they address this sort of thing on a county level. I've also heard of the trend that big retailers, like Wal*Mart, are eliminating products from their shelves that aren't environmentally friendly.

Heet is not labeled for solvent purposes, so one would conclude that it won't be banned. "Do It Best" is our hardware store's distributor. We are still waiting to find out if they can order marine stove fuel and Heet. Should find out this coming week.
