Don't forget to check out the gear lists on trailjournals.com. I still use
virtually the same gear I did when my son and I thru-hiked in 2005. For
colder weather, I've switched to a lightweight washable wool long-sleeve MEC
top with a zipper at the front and a hood which almost tempts me to leave my
buff behind. Had great luck with it on a section hike on the CDT in early
September this year.

I also carry an Ursak now instead of a regular stuff bag for food storage
most of the time, and I have a heavier camera (Nikon Coolpix) that needs
more batteries and they aren't AAs than my old stalwart Olympus D560. Love
the GPS and other fancy features.

Had to replace my rain gear this year and went with the basic, lightest MEC
rain gear which worked fine. A little heavier than the Patagonia I used to
carry but I couldn't justify the ridiculous cost for fewer ounces.
