I'm not sure if anyone has posted something like this lately,
but I thought it might make for interesting discussion.
In particular, I'm looking for advice/suggestions/criticism
on my gear list in anticipation of an upcoming PCT thruhike
in the next year or two. Perhaps it will aid not only myself,
but also any other aspiring thru-hikers. Please note, my goal
is to get my baseweight down to about 15 pounds,
I'd be content with that. FYI, I hiked Canada's West Coast Trail
in 2005 with a 7 pound Kelty external pack and a 58 pound load.
I hiked part of Glacier's "North Circle Loop" for 4 days in 2008
with 28 pounds, and all of the Loop for 7 days in 2009 with 31 pounds.
I'm no "gram weenie", but I am getting lighter!
The list below is based on the first several weeks on the PCT.
From there, gear would be swapped in/out for other gear for
the Sierras, etc.
(Hopefully the text posts in a legible fashion...apologies if it doesn't).
Items worn/used: long-sleeve shirt (8oz.), short underwear, pants
(11oz.),
socks,
trail shoes, ball cap/bandana, watch, camera, short gaiters, trekking poles.
