The 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals today reversed the criminal
conviction of the man charged with a crime for leaving water bottles in
the Arizona desert. The court held that a reasonable person might not
understand that leaving drinking water for thirsty people could
constitute littering and that the statute was, therefore, impermissibly
vague to support a criminal prosecution.
