  I"m speaking of tablets in foil and its one tablet to treat one liter of water.
  The tablets definitely smell of chlorine. I've not used them, but I had the 
  opportunity to mix some out of expired tabs as a test run.

  I've found it pretty easy to use.  Count out seven drops each of the "A" and "B" little bottles, wait a few minutes for the mixtures to chemically "mix", dump in your water bottle, and wait a few more minutes.  Its pretty simple to use in the field and doesn't have any taste that I've noticed.  My primary reason for using it is weight savings.  I don't know anything about the specifics of killing the crypto bug; probably something I should do some more research on.

    Thanks for posting to further the discussion.

    Could you give some feedback on your use of Aqua Mira? I've not used the product myself.

    Some dislike the cost and some dislike the expiration dates which add to the cost. I've heard
    complaints about the four hours to kill crypto, but I figure thats a manageable time if a hiker 
    doesn't wait until the last second before resupply of his water.

    I've never used it, but I noticed that its mentioned in the article that I just sent out.  I was always a do-nothing guy, everything in the back country is fine; then I filtered; and the last couple of years I've switched to Aqua Mira.  Still kicking!

        Basically,  filters and boiling work,  chlorine doesn't,  No mention of Aqua
        Mira which uses free Oxygen but I suspect it should work - just not sure of
        the required wait time.

        Even if I knew the wait time for Aqua Mira I doubt it would make any
        difference  -- I am just barely waiting 20 minutes or else I can wait hours
        it depends on my thirst when I hit a water source.

        There is generally no effective treatment - it eventually goes away.
