[pct-l] The AT as a "green tunnel"

I have hikes some small sections of the AT. I understood what you meant, I just had thought of it that way.
I'm not sure whether ?'s about the AT are frowned upon on this list, so I was reluctant to ask more. Since were talking about it though... ;)
The parts I've seen were, as you described, in dense forest. I've heard references to "balds", which I think means the top a hill that has no trees. The views should be nice from those, no? Hopefully you hike passed a couple a day. Hiking through a tunnel for months sounds miserable to me.
I've always just assumed I would someday hike the big three and get that triple crown. I'd hate for the AT to become something I have to force myself to finish because I need to "get out". The reason I'm hiking the PCT as a thru hike is so I can go live outside for a season. It's a response to having worked in a cubicle too long. I guess I'm saying I need the wide open vistas. Is the AT lacking these?
