[pct-l] charger clarification

Brandon,
You won't be able to use it AS a cell phone 95% of the time while on the PCT -
no cell towers.  If you have an emergency or you need communication ". . . in a
pinch" then a satellite phone will USUALLY work - but is both bulkier and
heavier.  Your best solution would be to have a SPOT.  I was able to send my
wife the peace of mind assurance that I was O K. from every camp location along
the PCT by simply turning it on and pressing the O.K. button. She would get a
message on her cell phone with a special ring, she would also get an email
message and would be able to look up my location on Google and actually see
a satellite picture of where I was. The SPOT also has a 911 emergency button if
you need helicopter rescue.  It has a tracker mode that allows your family and
team (up to 10 people) to actually follow your progress every 10 minutes in real
time. Another button that you can use - is a "I need help from friends" button.
I am aware that some of the hikers work out a codes of signals, using this
button, to communicate with their support people.
    Have a good adventure,
MendoRider/Ed Anderson

Subject: [pct-l] charger clarification

Let me clarify my cell phone charger question: It is a smart phone and requires
a lot of juice. I do not plan on using it other then for emergencies and
contacting my wife for resupply packages when needed. I am hoping to mostly use
it while in town to save battery power but for peace of mind I would like to
know that if I needed it in a pinch, it is charged (or able to be charged).
