My mp3 player had that feature and the built in mic was pretty good so I
considered doing this. But in the end, my camcorder just seemed like a better
option for doing this since I was already carrying it.

I have slowly found that I really wished i had taken more videos than pictures on my thru hikes. Joker's PCT Video, even with the *bleeping* language was mesmerizing. Also Miners Video was awesome. We all know how great Squatche's videos are. I've got them all lined up on my desktop. Anytime I feel "homesick" for the trail I roll one of the videos.
The written journal is great to communicate the feelings and thoughts of the hike. The photographs are great to depict the scenery. The videos capture life on the trail in real time.
By the way.. I am SOO glad Miner lost that video of me "freaking out" when I found that hammer someone(LEAPYEAR!) stashed in my pack in 2009!
Now that the technology and memory of these devices has grown by leaps and bounds it is possible to keep an extensive video journal on a memory card the size of a postage stamp. Does anyone remember when we had to carry rolls of film? Wow, I feel old.
Anyhow, from now on I am going to take a lot more digital videos on my hikes. I love my photo album, seldom read what I wrote, but always get "jazzed" watching the video clips.
We are so Lucky!
P.S. Miner, that video of you swinging in the hammock at the Heitmans.."Yep, things are kinda quiet here in Old Station.." Priceless! ;)
