Hi Mango,

Calorie had microspikes, and had used them with us on Forester the day
before, but he may have taken them off when he started the glissade.  But
neither he nor his brother had ice axes.  They did have hiking poles, but he
was not able to use these to stop the head over heals tumble down that steep
slope.  Given that type of fall, an ice axe flailing about may have been
even more dangerous, if he hadn't been able to stop the fall initially.
