Hey All,
I am thinking about doing a short trip the day after thanksgiving.
I am thinking of starting at [0266 mile] the very top of Highway 18 (where
it starts to drop down into baldwin lake) through Silverwood Lake.
Probably have my father pick me up at Silverwood Lake Rec Area [0329 mile].
So that puts me at 60 miles.
I grew up in Victorville, Apple Valley, Lucerne valley and spent 4 or 5
years in Big Bear, so I use to be familiar with the area, but it has been
15-18 years since I've been through that area.
I was wondering if anybody could give some feedback on this 60 mile stretch
of the PCT.
Would really like to know just how ruff this section is, how long you think
it would take, if the weather is good, and water availability when you last
went through there (hopefully earlier this year). I've been looking through
Halfmiles map for Google Earth and am familiar with most of the creeks but
again, it's been so long I just have no idea at all about water and trail
time for these 60 miles.
And, if anybody out there would be up for doing this with me, that would be
very very awesome! This will be my first section hike of the PCT and I am
wanting to do it because I will already be down there to visit my family for
Thanksgiving, and thought I could get in some trail time and gear testing
while I was at it - in a place that is somewhat in my "old backyard". Plan
to have my father drop me off at the top of highway 18 and pick up in
Silverwood. Both are about 30 miles from his place in Victorville.
Thanks,
John
