This has been discussed recently, but IMHO, stick with the Classic; the
other models use an uncommon, more expensive battery, that probably won't be
available in just any ole store. My new Classic weighs 5.75 oz, incl the
zip bag, their prefilter, & 4 lithium batteries.
You must keep that battery compartment gasket dry, however! Today I'm
looking for a o-ring to replace their blue gasket. Steripen tells me they
are considering a better gasket, but they've been in business for 6+ years.
The device is used around water and with water, isn't it?
I had my first one repaired, because I let its nylon stuff sack get
wet 5 years ago; that replacement (new, BTW) is being repaired or replaced
because I managed to almost drown myself in the Middle Fork Gila R abt 3
weeks ago; the pack & Steripen definitely drowned, and the Steripen didn't work
after I dried it for 10 days. Hopefully, I can find an o-ring, but I'll at
least have two of them now, the 2nd in the bounce box.
BTW, Ikea has a $25 digital scale that measures oz, gm, & can have a
tare weight added; it weighs to 1/4 oz increments. I doubt you'll find a
cheaper digital scale.

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted! I'm re-evaluating my pack
weight for section hikes and one area where I can reduce is for water
purification. I have been using a Katadyn Hiker (11+ ounces) for a long
time. What about the SteriPEN Adventurer Opti (3.6 oz)? If anyone has had
experience with this product, good or bad, please respond. Thank you very
much!
