Avace, if I was travelling through that country in late May, I'd carry 
an ice axe, aluminum crampons, and snowshoes wouldn't be a bad idea. A 
good three season tent, 20 degree bag and a full length thermarest-like 
pad, and maybe even a thin foam pad under that. You should be prepared 
to sleep on snow. Maybe some nights you might need to melt snow for water.

I'd wear boots heavy enough to kick steps in firm snow on the passes.

A good bivy might be an alternative to a tent.
