Dear Iron Chef:
Of course Postholer is not a predator on thru-wallets ... and neither are the other fine human beings who, after years of experience in long distance hiking, have designed, produced and sell exceptional lightweight gear aimed at the lightweight long distance hiker ... really great folks like Henry Shires, Ron Moak and Glen Van Peski who in their own way have done as much for hikers (and maybe more, but who's judging?) than Scott has with his excellent postholer.com and now with his maps. Scott/Postholer has ranted about and demeaned these folks for years for showing, demonstrating and (gasp!) selling their products at the Kickoff, with his semi-humorous "Thru-Wallet" children's story. I'm tweaking him (do I really have to explain this??) because now he has a product aimed at the aforementioned poor hapless "Thru-Wallets" ... and I think it's wonderful. Not only because he will be providing financial support to the PCTA and also providing exceptional map products to hikers, but because now maybe he will quit insulting other people since he's joined their illustrious ranks.
And the implication that hikers are just dumb "Thru-Wallets" who get flimflammed by all those MEAN folks selling backpacks, shelters and guide books ... gonna be glad to see that stop too. I don't think hikers are stupid to buy gear from the people I've mentioned. Why does Scott???
Happy Trails,
Two Legs
