I used those slippers on some of my hikes.
They provide some protection but not much. The sharp pieces of pine cones went right through the sole. I did used them around camp along with my insoles and for a little protection when going for a swim.
They wouldn't be appropriate except for a very mild water crossing.
Like many hikers it didn't take too many crossings before I gave up making any adjustments to my foot wear for water crossings. In 2006 the trail was often under water.
