Fortunately the ticks don't bind well to nylon pants.

I live and hike frequently in tick-infested SoCal locales and have no  
problem without using any chemicals at all. I may once in a while  
count dozens of ticks on my pants, but they fall right off. They just  
can't hang on.

Worrying too much about ticks on the PCT isn't worth the time and  
energy. Just do a physical check each night when you go to bed.
