[pct-l] Night light

Good evening, Dan,

I prefer to go lighter and more simply, so I use a Photon Freedom Micro.

Eighty percent of my light use is in the evening when I’m in the bag looking
at a map or writing my journal notes. The Freedom has infinitely variable
brightness down to very low which I use when close-up in the bag. I can fit
the string around the crown of my had above the brim for no-hands use, but
while walking I much prefer to keep it in my hand with the string around my
wrist. Used in such a way it's closer to the ground for more specific
illumination, and the low angle of the light displays the relief -- i.e.
roughness, bumps, rocks, holes, etc. -- much better than a light projected
from eye level.

They only weigh 0.26 oz. each so I often carry two of them. I prefer the
“covert” model that has a bit of a shield around the LED to limit side
light, but the regular model is just fine as well. They usually cost around
$15.

With only one LED it won’t kill all the weeds and insects within a 200-yard
radius when you flick it on, but I don’t much care what’s happening across
the canyon; I only care where I put my feet.
