Hi Julie,
We're close in age, and for all of my adult life I wore a size 9 1/2 to 10,
and did lots of hiking and backpacking. Several years ago I got the time to
do much more of both and added running to the mix. When I went to climb
Shasta two years ago and had to rent boots and cramps, I was surprised to
find that I needed everything in size 12. In my mid 50's my feet had grown
2 sizes with the extra pounding they were getting. They've stayed that
size, and all my running and hiking shoes are now size 12. And similar to
Chuck, with all of them, I need to leave the first few holes of the laces
very loose. I may need to go to a wider shoe at this point as suggested.
Good topic.
Scott
