Thest best and most expeditious method is to hike out Kersearge Pass to Big
Pine. Lone Pine is an easy hitch south (7 miles or so) There is next to
nothing in Big Pine but Lone Pine has it all. Great restaurants, good
resupply, friendly folks, the hostel and best of all the Dow Villa
Hotel/Motel where they treat you like a king. The hostle is $20 a night and
you share a room with several (if not lots of folks). The Dow gives you
privacy, spa and pool, etc. for not much more if you split a room.
Folks are real friendly and the place has a lot of historical significance
too. You're guaranteed to enjoy it and be glad you stopped there.
While in town (if you take a zero or not) be sure to stop by the Film Museum
which is also rich in history. Donation of $5 and you'll be amazed what the
local folks have put together.

I resupplied at the the Onion Valley Pack Station last year while doing the
JMT. The fee was $125 for them to leave the resupply bucket at the pack
station. They have a small metal bear "proof" box there for the purpose.
As for camping there at the station the answer was no. Showers, yes if the
door was open which it wasn't. Trying to communicate with them was an
adventure. I ended up hand delivering my bucket to their Pine Creek
facility which is their center of operations. I was afraid to mail it to
them due to the lack of response to my emails and not answering their phone.
There is no one at the Onion Valley station unless they have a trip going
over Kersarge Pass. Dee is a real character, a nice person but she runs a
pretty loose ship. The good news was that my resupply was waiting for me
when I arrived.

were prohibitively expense for holding a resupply. Apparently they do not
keep staff at the pack station but bring everything up from Independence and
stage their trips from there. So to resupply me they were going to have to
send up a person from town and spend the day at the pack station, all
billable to me. I don't remember what the fee was but it was way high,
enough that it made more sense to have them bring your pack to the PCT for a
little more.
