Hi All,

I checked on last nights earthquake and found that it was centered in the
Yucca Valley that is located south of Coyote Canyon's Middle Willows. This is
roughly 6 miles NE of Combs Peak, which the PCT skirts on it's east side. The
earthquake center would have been about 4 miles due east of the spring in Tule
Canyon that is southeast of Anza. Combs peak is on the Sierra Club's Hundred
Peaks List.

This quake was located on the San Jacinto fault zone. The Easter quake in
Baja was located on the Elsinore fault zone. The PCT crosses the Elsinore fault
zone about the Rodriguez Canyon truck trail to the west of Granite Mountain
about 7 miles before one gets to Scissors Crossing. It crosses the San Jacinto
fault about 4 miles south of Highway 74.

    You can go to

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqscanv/FaultMaps/116-33.html

for a map that shows these fault zones and the recent earthquake activities near
them. If you move your cursor over a fault line the name of the fault zone will
be displayed. Notice how many after shocks from the Easter quake are still
occurring along the Baja end of the Elsinore Fault zone.
