mapquest shows that RedBox is around 14 mi from La Canada.  The caltrans alert I saw said that the road is closed above RedBox. This explains why the Newsome Ranch is closed.  I'm sure Carl is right that the mudslide is just above the turnoff to Mt Wilson.

  there, my guess is that it's not far from La Canada--and almost certainly
  not past Red Box.
