According to my (admittedly unscientific) polls of PCT thru-hikers (

When asked "*How do you treat your water*?"

     *Water Filter (hand pump, gravity fed, etc.)*
*24 Votes (35%)*     *Chemicals (iodine, Aqua Mira, etc.)*
*38 Votes (56%)*     *I do not treat my water*

 35% of PCT thru-hikers  chose '*Water Filter (hand pump, gravity fed,
