I agree completely. I believe the cone is what keeps the heat concentrated and contained and that's why the performance is so much better. I used mine on my 2009 thru hike and it was flawless. Boiled water every day, sometimes three times a day.

Check out Antigravity Gear's Caldera Cone & Gram Gracker for esbit fuel. That combo boils 2 cups of cold water & still has some left.

That's a heavy stove!  My Esbit stove weighs about a half of an ounce.

I agree with the note on Esbit stoves not being powerful enough to make
water simmer.  I wish Esbit was more powerful.... but man, you just can't
beat the weight!
