Isabella,

I use Tinman's " antigravitygear.com", Calera stove set up minus the stove and alcohol.

The Caldera cone wraps around my pot, I place the esbit tab right on the ground, tall end up like a domino. I lite it with a crackpipe lighter. It boils two cups of water faster then any alcohol stove. Once the water is boiling I blow out the esbit tab. When it cools down I put the tab in a film canister for it's second use. I usually get two boils out of one tab.

I have found that the esbit tabs stink, and I put them in a ziplock to prevent the odor from smelling things up in the pack.

I use the crackpipe lighter because it lites the tab in the wind better then a lighter or match, you can get them from a head shop for about $5. It is basically a miniture blow torch.

You just count how many days you're going to be out and that's how many tabs you carry. You can take half and and add an extra or two and you'll be fine. No alcohol, no container to carry, no unseen flame to catch fire. It's pretty simple. The cost of the tabs has gone up and probably more expensive then alcohol for a thru hike.
