A tarp worked well for me in the Washington rain. I used a 8x10 with breaks
on each end. Plenty of room. With the modern fabrics I was able to hang my
wet gear under the tarp and it would dry overnight even in a down poor. Also,
cooking and general housekeeping could be done with ease. This year I plan
on switching from my small tarp to my 8x10 again for Washington. I should
mention that I also carry a ultra lite bivy.
