Dave,
I assume you are coming from UK.
There is an airport bus from LAX to Bakersfield.
Depending on dates I can put you up overnight provided that you can tolerate
2 exuberant friendly dogs.
Then I could drive you to Walker Pass.
Contact me offline if interested.

Dave,

There is local bus service from Bakersfield-to-Lake Isabella-to-Onyx which
leaves a 17 mile hitch to the pass.
Or-
There is local bus service on the east side running from Reno to Lancaster,
get off in Ridgecrest and hitch out to Walker.(approx. 35miles)

Hitching from either Onyx or Ridgecrest can be difficult so be patient,
someone will stop.

Walker Pass around the end of June as this seems to be a good/possible place
for me to start my northbound section hike?
