Kimberlie -

I wore a Macabi skirt (www.macabiskirt.com) when I hiked the CT in 2006. It
was a very versatile wardrobe piece, easily converting to harem-style
pants, shorter skirt or shorts. It also became a towel and washcloth, hot
pad, and condensation mop. I easily kept me cooler in hot climates, by
allowing the air to flow up and cool my legs, and when it was cooler a set
of long johns kept my legs warm. It was only problematic when it rained.
Rain pants under the skirt on bare legs did not feel good; putting the rain
pants over long johns helped.

In 2008 when I section hiked Oregon, I switched to Campmor zip-leg pants. I
had a much harder time regulating heat with the pants; partially opening
the legs, also allowed unprotected parts of my body to sunburn. As a
fair-skinned, sun-sensitive female, I try to cover head to toe. I sewed a
rain skirt with an velcro-adjustable waist. That helped a lot. On this trip
I wore bicycle half-finger gloves. When it became colder, I bought a pair
of Atlas 370 Nitrile PalmTech gloves at Diamond Lake. These worked much
better, and worked so well that I wear them when I sell football tickets
because I can handle money without taking them off.

Wear a bra with support if you need it. You can always put a spare bra in
your bounce box.

I make a list of items that I think I'll need for my next adventure, and
then shop online retailers during sales. My hiking shirts are all nylon,
and discontinued colors. My 'newest' shirts have snap closures, which I
find preferable to buttons and buttonholes. Even the sleeve vents have
snaps.

injinji socks (toe socks) really helped prevent blisters between the toes.
I did manage to get holes in both pairs on the big toes, and am in the
process of repairing them. The bamboo socks take 'forever' to dry.

Hope this helps.
