I've used light weight hiking shoes (Vasque Breeze low and mid) and they weren't just trail runners with leather uppers. They had a significantly stiffer sole that worked better for me than the trail runners I tried. The tops where mesh. There is quite a range of footwear available. The problem is figuring out what you need and finding a shoe that fits. Snap
