[pct-l] Montrail shoes

I have a new pair of Mt Masochists that I'm trying out around town.  So far have not had the opportunity to get out on the trail with them.  I'll post an update when I can say something useful.  Early on I developed a hot spot on one heel, but that turned out to be the fault of the socks , not the shoes.  An article in Backpacker magazine recently endorsed them - don't know if that's good or bad.

Has anyone used the Hardrock 09 or Mountain Masochist for a long hike? 
 I'm particularly wondering about durability and underfoot protection 
from pointy things.
