The best solution to waterproofing gear I found was one of those plastic 
bags used by the airlines you put your pack in when it goes in the hold. 
Just as tough and long lasting are heavy duty garbage bags found at 
janitorial supply stores - regular garbage bags ALWAYS get holes...
